"QADESH", "THE MISTRESS OF THE GODS," IS A NATURE GODDESS OF SYRIAN ORIGIN WHO LATER BECAME THE EGYPTIAN GODDESS OF SACRED LOVE AND SENSUAL PLEASURE. SHE IS USUALLY DEPICTED AS A NAKED WOMAN WITH A MOON CRESCENT ON HER HEAD, STANDING ATOP A LION. HER HANDS HOLD SYMBOLS OF EROTICISM AND FERTILITY. IN HER RIGHT HAND SHE HOLDS LOTUS FLOWERS, AND IN HER LEFT, TWO SNAKES. SHE IS THE SPIRIT OF BEAUTY, JOY, AND POWER.

SHE WAS ORIGINALLY THE WIFE OF THE SYRIAN GOD OF WAR AND PLAGUE, "RESHEP", WHO WAS INTRODUCED TO THE EGYPTIAN PANTHEON DURING THE NEW KINGDOM CULT OF THE NAKED GODDESS. "QADESH "WAS ALSO CONSIDERED THE CONSORT OF" MIN", THE GOD OF VIRILITY.

SHE HAD DOMINION OVER WOMEN'S MYSTERIES, YET LITTLE IS KNOWN OF HER VENERATION EXCEPT THAT HER NAME IS OFTEN LINKED WITH PROSTITUTION REFERRING TO A CLASS OF SACRED PROSTITUTES OF THE CULT OF "ASHERAH". IN FACT, "QADESH" IS SOMETIMES THOUGHT OF AS AN ASPECT OF "ASHERAH" RATHER THAN A DISTINCT GODDESS.
