The Triple Goddes Shakti

The Triple Goddes Shakti Image
Shakti is one of the primordial goddesses of India. Her name means power. As a Triple Goddess, she brings together Sarasvati, Lakshmi, and Kali and offers us an integration of the light and dark forces which can be used to create or destroy. Like the muses, she can inspire our creativity...especially poetry. Shakti can give us energy in our lives.

Sarasvati is The Flowering One. She is the goddess of knowledge. Her influence is spread to all the arts and creativity...music, painting, sculpture, dance, and writing. The Hindus credit her with presenting the gift of writing to mankind so that all of her songs could be written down and preserved. Her shrine is placed in libraries and decorated with flowers.

Lakshmi is a goddess of fertility and abundance and is usually invoked for prosperity. Her head appears on coins. She is revered as a protector of the body and of children. Her four hands represent four spiritual virtues. She sits on a fully blossomed lotus which is a seat of divine truth. Her palm is always extended to bless her people.

Kali is perhaps the most misunderstood of the Hindu goddesses. She is often portrayed as the goddess of death, but she is also the symbol of eternal time; she not only destroys life, but all gives it. She is invoked to protect the crops and harvest and to guard against smallpox and cholera. She is often portrayed as bare-breasted with her hair hanging loose and her tongue hanging out. (More about Kali to follow).

Invocation For Shakti

Shakti, allow me to experience my darkness, and not be afraid. Let me meet Kali and journey from dark into light. Sarasvati help me to blossom and flower and discover my creativity, and Lakshmi, protect me and let me find abundance. Shakti accompany my journey through darkness and help me to believe that I will see light again. When all seems lost, reassure me that I will feel creative once more.
