EOS is the Greek Goddess of the dawn. She is nearly identical to the Roman Goddess Aurora--she is the sister of Helios, God of the Sun, and Selene, Goddess of the Moon. By Astraios, God of the dusk, she is the mother of the four winds: Boreas (the north wind), Eurus (the east wind), Notus (the south wind), and Zephyrus (the west wind). By another lover, Tithonus, she had another two sons, Memnon and Emathion. Both of these sons were killed--Memnon in the Trojan War and Emathion by Herakles on his quest for the golden apples of the Hesperides. Eos cries for her fallen sons as she crosses the sky in the morning, and her tears become the dew.

Eos, one of the most beautiful Goddesses of Olympus, had many lovers, including Ares, Astraios, Orion, Kephalos, Kleitos, Ganymede, and Tithonus. Ganymede and Tithonus were brothers, princes of Troy, who Eos kidnapped to be her lovers. Zeus took notice of Ganymede, the most handsome mortal man in the world, and took him from Eos to serve as his cupbearer. In exchange, Eos asked Zeus to grant Tithonus eternal life, which he did. Unfortunately, Eos had forgotten to ask that Tithonus stay eternally young, and he aged normally until he was no longer able to walk or move on his own. Eos turned him into a cricket, and the cricket is still a symbol of immortality in many cultures.
