SHE IS ABLE TO FORETELL THE FUTURE BY THE ARRANGEMENT OF THE STARS.

URANIA IS USUALLY DEPICTED WITH A GLOBE IN HER LEFT HAND AND A PEG IN HER RIGHT HAND. SHE APPEARS DRESSED IN A CLOAK WHICH IS EMBROIDERED WITH THE STARS AND KEEPS HER EYES AND HER ATTENTION FOCUSED ON THE HEAVENS AS SHE STROLLS ALONG AFTER DARK. HER DARK COLORS SIGNIFY THE NIGHT SKY AND THE MYSTERIES OF THE UNIVERSE.

ACCORDING TO LEGEND, SHE ARRIVED FROM THE CELESTIAL REGIONS ON A BOLT OF LIGHTNING TO AN EARTH DEVOID OF PEOPLE. WHAT SHE FOUND WERE A TABLE, A CHAIR, AND A FLAT STONE THAT WAS RESTING ON MUD. SHE SCOOPED UP THE MUD AND MADE NUMEROUS LITTLE MUD DOLLS, AND THEN BREATHED LIFE INTO EACH ONE OF THEM. "WOYENGI" THEN LET THEM DECIDE THEIR FATE, INCLUDING WHAT SEX THEY WANTED TO BE, HOW THEY WANTED TO LIVE,AND HOW THEY WANTED TO DIE.

SHE THEN TOOK THEM TO TWO STREAMS AND SAID, "THE STREAM ON THIS SIDE LEADS TO LUXURY; THE STREAM ON THAT SIDE LEADS TO ORDINARINESS. THOSE WHO CHOSE A LIFE OF IMPORTANCE OR POWER HAD TO GO DOWN THE STREAM FILLED WITH RAPIDS, ROCKS, AND DANGEROUS CURRENTS; THOSE WHO HAD CHOSEN AN EASY LIFE HAD TO FOLLOW THE SECOND STREAM WHICH WAS CLEAR AND CALM...BUT WITH DANGEROUS QUICKSAND IN THE SHALLOWS.

HER MYTH TELLS US TO THINK OF THE CONSEQUENCE OF OUR CHOICES, AND THE MORAL IS THAT WE MUST LEARN TO MAKE THE BEST CHOICE WE CAN AND LIVE WITH THE RESULT.

Melqart, properly Phoenician Milk-Qart "King of the City", less accurately Melkart, Melkarth or Melgart, Akkadian Milqartu, was tutelary god of the Phoenician city of Tyre as Eshmun protected Sidon. Melqart was often titled Ba'l ur "Lord of Tyre", the ancestral king of the royal line. In Greek, by interpretatio graeca he was identified with Heracles and referred to as the Tyrian Herakles. Melqart was venerated in Phoenician and Punic cultures from Syria to Spain. The first occurrence of the name is in a ninth-century BCE stela inscription found in 1939 north of Aleppo in northern Syria, the "Ben-Hadad" inscription, erected by the son of the king of Arma, "for his lord Melqart, which he vowed to him and he heard his voice".

XI SHI (pronounced SHE shur) is the Chinese Goddess of face creams and perfumes. She is one of the Four Beauties of ancient China, and was so beautiful that fish forgot to swim and birds forgot to fly when they saw her. Her beauty was used as a state weapon by the deposed King of Yue. He had been defeated by the King of Wu in a war and imprisoned. His advisors trained Xi Shi and Zheng Dan, another beauty, and then sent them to the King of Wu. He was so distracted by the beautiful women that he neglected the kingdom and was overthrown by the deposed King. The Queen of Yue then had Xi Shi drowned so that her husband would not be tempted by her. She is also known as HSI SHIH.
