Goddess Al Uzza

Goddess Al Uzza Image
"AL UZZA" WAS THE VIRGIN WARRIOR GODDESS OF THE PRE-ISLAMIC TRIAD OF GODDESSES WHICH INCLUDE AL LAT AND MENAT. THEY WERE ALSO CALLED "THE DAUGHTERS OF ALLAH" AND WERE SUPPOSED TO INTERCEDE BEFORE ALLAH. HER NAME MEANS "THE MOST MIGHTY", AND SHE WAS KNOWN AS A FIERCE WARRIOR IN BATTLES AND WAS OFTEN CALLED UPON FOR PROTECTION. SHE WAS ALSO A RULER OF FERTILITY AND OF THE WILD BEASTS. IT IS SAID THAT AT ONE TIME, SHE RECEIVED BLOOD SACRIFICES OF HUMANS AND ANIMALS--BUT THIS INFORMATION COMES FROM ISLAMIC SOURCES AND IS MOST LIKELY BIASED.

HER RULE AS THE MORNING AND EVENING STAR GIVES HER POWER OVER ASTROLOGY AND THE CHANGING OF THE SEASONS. SHE IS ASSOCIATED WITH THE PLANET, VENUS. AL UZZA IS ALSO KNOWN AS THE GODDESS OF THE SEA, THE GUARDIAN OF THE FISH AND DOLPHINS. HER NAME IS INVOKED BY TRAVELERS AND SAILORS...HOPING FOR A SAFE JOURNEY.
