IT WAS ON THIS DATE, JULY 8TH, THE "VITULATIO" WAS CELEBRATED, A FESTIVAL IN HONOR OF "VITULA",THE ROMAN DEITY PRESIDED OVER FESTIVALS AND REJOICINGS. SHE WAS THE GODDESS OF JUBILATION, MIRTH, LIFE, AND VICTORY, IN PARTICULAR THE JOY WHICH FOLLOWS A MILITARY VICTORY. IT IS A DAY OF JOY AND CELEBRATION.

ON THIS DAY SHE RECEIVED THE FIRST FRUITS OF THE EARTH WITH GAVE LIFE, AND OF COURSE, MUSIC WAS AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE CELEBRATIONS, AND HER NAME EVENTUALLY BECAME THE MODERN DAY NAMES OF INSTRUMENTS SUCH AS THE VIOLIN AND THE FIDDLE FROM THE LATIN WORD VITULARIA WHICH MEANS CELEBRATE JOYFULLY. CHANTING AND SINGING FOR JOY AND THE FRUITS OF THE EARTH WERE OFFERED BY THE PRIESTS TO THE GODDESS.
