"OSHUN" IS THE WELL-KNOWN WATER GODDESS OF THE YORUBA PEOPLE IN NIGERIA. SHE IS THE GODDESS OF PLEASURE, LOVE, DIVINATION, ART, AND DANCE. SOME COMPARE HER TO THE ROMAN GODDESS, VENUS. GENERALLY DEPICTED AS A DARK-SKINNED WOMAN WITH LARGE HIPS, OSHUN RADIATES A SPECIAL KIND OF BEAUTY. ALTHOUGH SHE IS KNOWN TO MANY AS THE 'GREAT GIVER', SHE CAN BECOME ENRAGED, AND WHEN SHE IS ANGRY, SHE IS KNOWN TO HAVE A NASTY TEMPER MAKING IT CAN BE VERY DIFFICULT TO CALM HER DOWN.

SHE WAS BORN IN THE RIVER OSHUN AND RULES OVER ALL BODIES OF WATER AND SENSUAL ACTS; SHE LIVES IN THE CURRENTS AND EDDIES OF THE RIVER WHERE HER FORCE FOREVER MOVES FORWARD. OSHUN IS A HEDONISTIC GODDESS WHO ENJOYS TAKING PART IN ANY ACTIVITY THAT EMBRACES JOY AND PLEASURE. SHE IS ALSO KNOWN TO CURE THE SICK AND PROMOTEFERTILITY. FOR THIS REASON, SHE IS PRIMARILY THOUGHT OF AS A GODDESS OF WOMEN AND WITCHES.

HER INFLUENCE IS GENTLE, AND SHE TEACHES HUMANITY THAT THE SECRET TO LIFE IS LOVE. EVERYTHING THAT IS BEAUTIFUL BELONGS TO THIS GODDESS, AND BEING CREATIVE IN THE WAY WE DECORATE OUR HOMES IS A WAY TO PRAISE HER...FOR SHE WILL BLESS ANY BEAUTIFUL SPACE CREATED IN HER HONOR. JEWELRY, PERFUMES, DANCING AND SEASHELLS ARE SACRED TO OSHUN AND HENCE, THE PERFECT OFFERING FOR THIS GODDESS OF LOVE.

WATER CAN WASH AWAY OUR TROUBLES AND HELP US GO WITH THE FLOW. PRAISE OSHUN WHEN YOU ARE TIRED, AND SHE WILL BE THERE TO ENLIVEN YOUR SPIRITS. IF YOU SHOULD FIND YOURSELF AT A CROSSROADS, CALL TO HER, AND SHE WILL HELP YOU TO FLOW IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.
