"FREYA IS" THE NORSE GODDESS OF LOVE, FERTILITY, DESTINY, SHAMANISM, MAGIC, DEATH, AND EVEN WAR. HER NAME MEANS "MISTRESS" AND "LADY, "AND SHE WAS A VERY PROMISCUOUS GODDESS WHO HAD MANY LOVERS, BUT ALWAYS HELD A VERY DEEP LOVE FOR HER HUSBAND, OD. SHE IS THE MAIDEN MISTRESS WHO IS DESCRIBED AS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL OF GODDESSES AND WITH HER STRAWBERRY BLOND HAIR AND BLUE EYES, NEITHER MAN NOR GOD CAN RESIST HER. FREYA IS CONNECTED WITH BIRTHS, BOTH HUMAN AND ANIMAL. VIKING MAIDENS WOULD PRAY TO HER ON MATTERS OF THE HEART AND LOVE. HER SACRED DAY IS FRIDAY; HER NUMBER IS 13. FREYA HAS A MAGICAL NECKLACE WHICH SHE OBTAINED BY SLEEPING WITH FOUR DWARFS, A CLOAK OF BIRD FEATHERS WHICH ENABLE HER TO TO CHANGE INTO A FALCON, AND A CHARIOT PULLED BY TWO CAT, AND, ASIDE FROM HER PROMISCUITY AND BEAUTY, SHE WAS ALSO A FIERCE GODDESS WHEN SHE RODE INTO BATTLE ON HER CHARIOT, AND AS "QUEEN OF THE VALKYRIES", THEIR ARMOR FLICKERING WITH LIGHT, SHE GATHERS THE SOULS OF THE SLAIN WARRIORS AND ESCORTS THEM INTO THE AFTERLIFE.

SHE IS THE GODDESS OF ALL WITCHCRAFT AND MAGICAL ABILITIES. AS THE "SHAMAN" OF THE GODS, IT WAS "FREYA" WHO TAUGHT "ODIN" SORCERY AND WITCHCRAFT. ALSO CALLED FRIGG IN HER MOTHER EARTH FACE, SHE IS SYMBOLIC OF THE EARTH, FOR LIKE PERSEPHONE, FREYA WAS "ABSENT FROM THE EARTH DURING THE AUTUMN AND WINTER", "A DEPARTURE THAT CAUSED THE LEAVES TO FALL AND THE EARTH TO WEAR A MOURNING CLOAK OF SNOW." IT IS SAID THAT DURING THIS TIME, SHE SEARCHES THROUGHOUT THE NINE WORLDS FOR HER BELOVED HUSBAND, OD, BITTERLY CRYING TEARS OF GOLD AND AMBER UNTIL THEY ARE REUNITED.

In fall Freyja left us
Traveling southward.
Now she returns again,
Bringing soft words.
Out of her golden hair
Spring flowers fall
Tumbling like melodies,
Sounding the call.
Chaste through the winter
Women now pine,
Wanting their lovers home
Sharing the wine.

(A Scandinavian song to the Goddess)
