"TAUERET" WAS AN EARLY EGYPTIAN MOTHER GODDESS, REPRESENTED AS A HIPPOPOTAMUS; SHE REPRESENTED MOTHERHOOD AND THE CARE OF CHILDREN. HER NAME MEANS" THE GREAT ONE", AND SHE WAS A POWERFUL GODDESS. IN ANCIENT EGYPT, THE HIPPOPOTAMUS, WHICH GIVES BIRTH IN THE WATER, REPRESENTED THE MOTHER PRINCIPLE IN THE FORM OF THE GODDESS "TAUERET", WHO ASSISTED WOMEN IN LABOR AND PROTECTED NEWBORN BABIES. THIS GODDESS IS KNOWN FROM THE ARCHAIC PERIOD 5,000 YEARS AGO WHEN HIPPOS LIVED IN THE FERTILE MUD ALONG THE NILE. SOMETIMES HER HEAD WAS THAT OF A LION, WHICH REPRESENTS HER
