"METIS" WAS GREEK GODDESS OF WISDOM; SHE WAS THE WISEST OF ALL OF THE GODS AND MORTALS ALIKE. SHE WAS A SECOND GENERATION "TITAN", BORN TO "OCEANUS" AND "TETHYS" IN. WHEN "ZEUS" DECIDED THAT HE NEEDED AQUEEN, HE CHOSE "METIS". AT FIRST SHE TRIED IN VAIN TO ESCAPE HIS ADVANCES, BUT IN THE END SUCCUMBED TO HIS ENDEAVOR AND BECAME FIRST WIFE OF "ZEUS", BEFORE "HERA",...BUT THIS WAS A DANGEROUS UNION BECAUSE "METIS" WAS FATED TO BEAR TWO EXCEPTIONAL CHILDREN TO HIM, THE FIRST, A DAUGHTER "ATHENA," WHO WAS TO BE AS WISE AND STRONG AS HER FATHER FOLLOWED BY A SON WHO WOULD EVENTUALLY DISPLACE HIM AS RULER OF GODS AND MORTALS. TO AVOID THIS, "ZEUS" SWALLOWED THE PREGNANT "METIS" TO PREVENT HER FROM GIVING BIRTH TO A SON WHILE SHE WAS PREGNANT WITH "ATHENA". SO ATHENA WAS BORN FULLY GROWN FROM HIS HEAD, AND THE THREATENING SON WAS NEVER CONCEIVED.
IT IS SAID THAT" METIS" REMAINS IN "ZEUS'S" BELLY, SUPPLYING HIM WITH INNER WISDOM AND ADVICE, WHILE "ATHENA" WAS TO BECOME HER FATHER'S MOST TRUSTED ALLY AND ADVISOR." METIS" IS THE PERSONIFICATION OF FEMININE INTUITION. SHE IS ALSO SEEN AS AN ORACLE, AND THE PATRONESS OF COUNSELORS AND THERAPISTS.
