They tried to subdue Her, but the undead forms had been waiting for Her, and they responded to Her caressing light, stirring with life deep within the cave. The glowing forms turned into butterflies, bees and a other insects that glittered; they flew and crept from the dark recesses of the Underworld until they swarmed around "Yhi "in a dancing mass...and as She retreated from the cave, they followed Her out into the world to commune with the waiting vegetation, and there was movement on the earth...
...BUT YHI KNEW THAT THERE WAS SO MUCH MORE THAT HAD TO BE DONE; SHE RETURNED TO THE ICY CAVES WITHIN THE MOUNTAINS AND ONCE AGAIN, BROUGHT HER LIGHT INTO THE DARK, COLD INTERIORS. HER WARMTH MELTED THE ICE WHICH, IN TURN, FLOWED FROM THE CAVE AND FORMED BODIES OF WATER...AND FROM THIS WATER,UNFORMED SHAPES WERE RELEASED FROM THEIR SLEEP AND BECAME THE FISH, SNAKES AND LIZARDS. THEY RUSHED INTO THE SUNLIGHT AND FOUND THEIR NEW HOMES IN THE LAKES AND GRASSES THAT WERE WAITING FOR THEM.
Yhi continued to enter cave after cave and from each rushed a torrent of birds and animals that joined the other creatures in the light. The world was dancing with life, and "Yhi" spoke, I shall return each day and bless you with the seasons; summer for regeneration and birth, and winter for cleansing and rest. And
SHE TURNED HERSELF INTO A GLOWING BALL OF LIGHT IN THE SKY, DISAPPEARING OVER THE HORIZON, AND AS SHE DISAPPEARED, DARKNESS FELL OVER THE EARTH. FEARING THE RETURN OF PERPETUAL DARKNESS, THERE WAS GREAT SORROW AND MOURNING UNTIL EVENTUALLY, THERE WAS SLEEP. AND AFTERWARD, ONE BY ONE, THE CREATURES OPENED THEIR EYES, AND, TO THEIR GREAT JOY, LIGHT BEAMED IN THE EAST AND FELL UPON THEIR WORLD ONCE AGAIN....THE FIRST DAWN. "GODDESS YHI" HAD RETURNED JUST AS SHE HAD PROMISED, AND THEY UNDERSTOOD THAT DAY WOULD ALWAYS FOLLOW THE NIGHT...
...AND LIKE THE SHAPELESS FIGURES IN THE CAVE WAITING FOR THE LIGHT, OUR SPIRIT RESIDES IN THE DARK RECESSES...SLEEPING, WAITING FOR ENLIGHTENMENT FOR BOTH DARKNESS AND LIGHT EXIST WITHIN AND WITHOUT. THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE CREATION TALES.
