ASTERIA MEANS THE ISLAND, WHICH HAS FALLEN FROM HEAVEN LIKE A STAR. SHE IS THE DAUGHTER OF THE TITAN, COEUS AND PHEOBE. SHE WAS THE SISTER OF LETO AND BECAME THE WIFE OF PERSES AND THE MOTHER OF HECATE. SHE WAS THE TITAN GODDESS OF ORACLES AND PROPHESIES OF THE NIGHT, INCLUDING PROPHETIC DREAMS AND THE READING OF THE STARS. AFTER THE FALL OF THE TITANS, SHE WAS PERSUED BY ZEUS, BUT MANAGED TO AVERT BEING CAPTURED BY TRANSFORMING HERSELF INTO A QUAIL AND DIVING INTO THE SEA WHERE SHE BECAME THE ISLAND OF DELOS.

ASTERIA IS ALSO THE GODDESS OF FALLING STARS, AND TONIGHT WILL BE PUTTING ON QUITE A SHOW WITH THE GEMINID DISPLAY WHICH IS SCHEDULED TO REACH ITS PEAK DURING THE OVERNIGHT HOURS DECEMBER 13 AND 14TH. SO, WATCH FOR HER IN THE SKY TONIGHT.
