IN THE MYTHOLOGY OF CHIBCHA PEOPLE OF COLUMBIA, "HUITACA" WAS THE BEAUTIFUL GODDESS OF DANCING, DRUNKENNESS AND SEXUAL EXCESS. SHE HAD A LOVE OF LAUGHTER, INTOXICATING DRINKS, AND EVERYTHING ELSE THAT BRINGS PLEASURE. SHE WAS THE PROTECTRESS OF WOMEN AND THE ANTAGONIST, SO TO SPEAK, OF THE GODS OF CREATION WHO TAUGHT MEN THE MORAL LAWS FOR THE UPHOLDING OF CUSTOM AND DECENCY "HUITACA "SPREAD BAD TEACHING AMONG THE CHIBCHA, WHO THEN GAVE THEMSELVES TO LUST AND PARTYING.

SHE WAS A MOON GODDESS WHO WEAVES DREAMS AND WAS OFTEN DEPICTED AS AN OWL. IN SOME STORIES, IT IS SAID THAT SHE PURSUED "NEMTEREQUETEBA", BUT HE TURNED HER INTO THE OWL OR THE MOON. IN YET OTHER STORIES, HOWEVER, HER TRANSFORMATION IS ATTRIBUTED TO "BOCHICA", THE CREATOR OF MORALS. SHE TRIED TO DESTROY HIS FOLLOWERS BY UNLEASHING A GREAT FLOOD UPON THEM, AND THEN DISAPPEARED SOMEWHERE IN THE WEST WHERE SHE LEFT HER FOOTPRINTS ON THE ROCKS. SOME LEGENDS SAY THAT SHE WAS HURLED INTO SKY BY "BOCHICA" AND TURNED INTO THE MOON.
