HER NAME WAS "ANDRASTA" AND SHE WAS THE SOVEREIGN GODDESS OF THE "ICENI" TRIBE, A PROUD AND POWERFUL PEOPLE WHO ONCE LIVED IN BRITAIN. HER NAME LITERALLY MEANS "THE DARK ONE", AND THE ROOTS OF HER NAME GOES BACK TO THE CONCEPTS OF DARKNESS. SHE WAS ASSOCIATED WITH WAR AND BATTLE. IT IS SAID THAT HER PRESENCE WAS EVOKED ON THE EVE OF BATTLE. IT WAS SAID THAT" BOUDICCA", THE BRITISH WARRIOR QUEEN, PRAYED TO "ANDRASTA, "BEFORE GOING INTO BATTLE THE AGAINST HER ROMAN FOES, AND, IN FACT, IT IS BELIEVED THAT "BOUDICA "WAS A PRIESTESS OF THE GODDESS.

"ANDRASTA", AS A WARRIOR GODDESS, THE GODDESS OF VICTORY, OF RAVENS AND BATTLES, IS MOST LIKELY DERIVED FROM THE GREAT "QUEEN MORRIGAN", ONE OF THE TRIO OF OLD IRISH WAR/FERTILITY GODDESSES, WHO WAS KNOWN ALSO AS THE "QUEEN OF NIGHTMARES". HER MAIN CONCERN WAS WITH VICTORY, AND AS GODDESS OF DIVINATION, SHE WAS ALSO PROBABLY CALLED UPON TO DIVINE THE OUTCOME OF THE BATTLE. IT IS BELIEVED THAT THIS GODDESS RECEIVED HUMAN SACRIFICES.

She was was venerated in woodland groves throughout Southern Britain and it has been said that there is a sacred grove dedicated to "Andrasta" hidden somewhere in "Epping Forest." Her symbol is the hare.
