"BAUBO" IS THE PRE-HELLENIC GODDESS OF LAUGHTER. SHE WAS THE SISTER OR MOTHER OF "IAMBE, "AND IT APPEARS THE GREEKS BORROWED HER FROM FAR OLDER CULTURES. REALIZING THAT THE "GODDESS" NEEDED NOURISHMENT, "BAUBO" OFFERED HER SOME SOUP, AND WHEN "DEMETER "REFUSED, "BAUBO" FLASHED HER VULVA IN AN ATTEMPT TO CHEER THE GODDESS UP. "DEMETER "BEGAN TO SMILE, AND THEN CHUCKLED, AND THEN GAVE A FULL BELLY LAUGH, AT WHICH POINT THE EARTH STARTED TURNING GREEN AGAIN. HENCE, IT IS EASY TO SEE THAT "BAUBO "REPRESENTS THE HEALING POWER OF LAUGHTER.

Lord Vishnu incarnates as Lord Matsya,at the end of each manvantara.

Lord Matsya, at a manvantara has saved vedas from a Demon and restored vedas to Lord Brahma.

SHE BECOMES SO DISGUSTED WITH HIS ARROGANCE AND PRIDE, THAT SHE INFORMS HIM THAT SHE WILL NOT BE GIVING HIM A HEAD AFTER ALL; INSTEAD, SHE SENTENCES HIM TO SCUTTLE SIDEWAYS FOREVER. CRAB IS SO HUMILIATED THAT HE HIDES UNDER A ROCK...WHICH HAS WHAT HE HAS DONE EVER SINCE.

The Maya Death Gods, known under various names, belong to only two basic types, respectively represented by the 16th-century Yucatec deities Hunhau and Uacmitun Ahau mentioned by Landa. Hunhau is the lord of the Underworld. Iconographically, Hunhau and Uacmitun Ahau correspond to the Gods A and A'. In recent narratives, particularly in the oral tradition of the Lacandons, there is only one death god (called Kisin in Lacandon), who acts as the antipode of the Upper God in the creation of the world and of the human body and soul. This death god inhabits an Underworld that is also the world of the dead. As a ruler over the world of the dead, the principal death god corresponds to the Aztec deity Mictlantecuhtli. The Popol Vuh has two leading death gods, but these two are really one: Both are called 'Death', with only the prefixes ('One' and 'Seven') being different. They were vanquished by the Hero Twins. The two principal death gods count among the many were-animals and spooks inhabiting the Underworld, with the God A way in particular manifesting himself as a head hunter and a deer hunter.

POLYHYMNIA (pronounced pol-ee-HIM-nee-ah) is the Greek Muse of hymns, eloquence, and mime. The nine Muses are the daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne, and they accompany Apollo in his role as God of the arts. Goddess Atai

ATAI is the Efik Goddess of creation and death. The Efik of Nigeria say that Atai and her husband Abassi, God of creation and the sky, created the first man and woman. Abassi wanted to keep them in the sky with him so that he could better control them, fearing that they would become stronger or wiser than him. Atai convinced him to let them settle on the earth, under the conditions that they would not work or mate. Abassi agreed, and the man and woman went to live on the earth. Each day, they returned to the heavens to eat with Abassi so he could check up on them.

Eventually, the woman discovered that she could grow food for her and the man by herself, and began to work in the fields. After the man had joined her in the field, they also discovered sex and began to have children. When Abassi called them to come and eat, they would not come and Abassi turned on Atai and blamed her for convincing him to let them go. Atai told Abassi that she would resolve the situation, and she sent death and discord to the earth. The first man and woman died immediately, and their children were doomed to have discord walk among them for all their days, until they too died.

Apedemak, alt Apademak, was a lion-headed warrior god worshiped in Nubia by Meroitic peoples. A number of Meroitic temples dedicated to Apedemak are known from the Butana region: Naqa, Meroe, and Musawwarat es-Sufra, which seems to be his chief cult place. In the temple of Naqa built by the rulers of Meroe he was depicted as a three-headed leonine god with four arms, but he is also depicted as a single-headed leonine deity. Apedemak played little role in Egyptian religion, being a product of the Meroitic culture.

Goddess Macha

MACHA (pronounced MOCK-uh) is the Irish goddess of war. Along with her sisters Badb and Anu, she forms the triple Goddess known as the Morrigan. All three could take the form of crows or ravens, and would fly over battlefields, choosing who would die and who would live. They would then take the souls of the deceased in their black wings, flying them off to the Otherworld.

Macha, Badb, and Anu are the daughters of Ernmas, an Irish mother Goddess, and Delbaeth, High King of Ireland. They are also the sisters of another triplicity of Goddesses: Banba, Eriu, and Fodla, Goddesses of Irish sovereignty. Where the latter three Goddesses embodied the sovereignty of Ireland, the former three protected it, through war but also through life. There are actually three Irish mythological figures named Macha, and only one is warlike: MACHA MONG RUADH (Macha of the red hair), who fought to become queen after her father the king had died. Another Macha, the wife of Nemed, who led the Nemedians into Ireland, died shortly after their arrival, but not before prophesying the arrival of the third Macha. This third Macha appeared one day at the home of a widowed farmer and became his wife, and he soon became very prosperous. When he wanted to attend the Assembly of Ulster, Macha did not want him to go, but relented on the condition that he not mention her name. Unfortunately, the farmer boasted to the King of Ulster that his wife was faster than the king's horses, and she was dragged to Ulster to race against the horses. Macha was heavily pregnant with twins at the time, but she still managed to beat the horses. After crossing the finish line, she went into labor, delivered the twins, and then died. As her dying words, she cursed the men of Ulster, saying that in the time of their greatest difficulty, they too would suffer the pains of labor and childbirth.

Macha's name, which means "plain" (as in flat land), resounds throughout Irish mythology and history. The first Macha, wife of Nemed, was buried at Ard Macha (hill of Macha), now known as Armagh. The place where the third Macha gave birth became the capital of Ulster, Emain Macha (Macha's twins). The hero Cuchulainn is given a horse by Anu named Liath Macha (gray of Macha).

Djinn

Djinn, a.k.a." Jinn, Genies", are in Middle Eastern folklore a race of supernatural beings that existed on the earth prior to the creation of humanity. Djinn are similar to the fairies of Europe and the demons of Judeo-Christianity.

APPEARANCE: The Djinn's true form is that of a being of fire. However, as the Djinn possess the powers of shape-shifting they can take on any form or shape they choose. The Djinn tend to prefer animal shapes.

LORE: According to Islamic belief, God created the Angels from light, the Djinn from fire, and Humans from earth. The Djinn, though different from humans, are also similar to humans in several ways. For one they have both male and female genders. Secondly, their society is structured similar to human society, with the Djinn having their own form of government. Also, the Djinn can be Muslim, Christian, or members of any other faith. Despite how the Djinn are often portrayed, not all Djinn are evil. In fact, the overwhelming majority of Djinn are apathetic or indifferent toward humanity. Only a small percentage of Djinn are openly malevolent or benevolent toward humanity. Djinn can inhabit out-of-the-way places and also appear to dwell in a parallel world, similar to the notion of "fairy land". Interestingly, it is just as difficult for the Djinn to perceive humanity as it is for humanity to perceive the Djinn. The Djinn can, and sometimes do, interbreed with humans.

THE DJINN AND SORCERY: Djinn are vulnerable to magic. Sorcerers or magicians can enslave Djinn and force them to do their bidding. One of the best examples of this behavior would be the enslavement of the Djinn by King Solomon. According to legend, King Solomon possessed a magic ring that allowed him to command the spirits. Solomon used the ring to order the Djinn to build the temple attributed to him. It is a common belief that black magic practitioners will send out a Djinn to harass, harm, or even kill a person.

DJINN AS "GENIES": The popular image of the "genie-in-a-bottle" is in fact a reference to a Djinn which has been trapped in a bottle, container, or gem or crystal via the use of magic or sorcery. Djinn can and do promise the granting of wishes to mortals in return fro releasing them. Put simply, no. If there was a standard order used by the Egyptians for their alphabet, it has been lost. And unlike Hebrew, but like English, the symbols used to express numbers in Ancient Egyptian were not used for letters.

However, since the phonetics of Egyptian closely parallel Hebrew, it is possible to transliterate Egyptian names and phrases into the Hebrew alphabet for gematric computations much more readily than English.

* What's the deal with all these 'hyphenated' gods like Amen-Ra, Ra-Hoor-Khuit, Ptah-Seker-Ausar, etc.?
