SHE WAS THOUGHT TO DWELL IN THE INACCESSIBLE REGIONS OF THE MOUNTAINS IN A CAVE OR A MOUNTAIN HUT WHERE SHE WOULD TEND AND MILK HER WILD FLOCK. SHE WAS A SHAPE-SHIFTER AND LIKED TO ASSUME THE FORM OF A MEMBER OF HER OWN FLOCK WHICH WOULD ALSO ATTRACT THE ATTENTION OF THE HUNTERS. ALTHOUGH SHE WAS SELDOM SEEN, SHE WAS DEPICTED AS A CAPTIVATING YOUNG WOMAN WHO WORE HER LONG GOLDEN HAIR IN BRAIDS. HER BEAUTY WAS BOTH IRRESISTIBLE AND TERRIBLE, AND HUNTERS WERE CAPTIVATED BY HER STRENGTH AND ETHEREAL BEAUTY WHENEVER SHE CHOSE TO BE SEEN.
BECAUSE SHE WAS A GODDESS OF THE HUNT, SHE SOMETIME CHOSE TO HAVE A ROMANTIC FLING WITH A MORTAL, AND WHENEVER A MAN BECAME HER LOVER, SHE GAVE HIM AN ARROW TIP OR A RING THAT BROUGHT HIM LUCK WITH THE HUNT, BUT IF HE WAS UNFAITHFUL TO HER, SHE WOULD TAKE CRUEL REVENGE. BUT, IT HAS BEEN SAID THAT THE PRICE FOR HER AFFECTION WAS HIGH FOR HER CHOSEN MAN WOULD NEVER BE ABLE TO SLEEP WITH A MORTAL WOMAN AGAIN.
HUNTERS MADE OFFERINGS TO" DALI "BEFORE A HUNT AND AFTERWARDS IF THEY WERE SUCCESSFUL.

"SHE IS NOT AS THE OTHERS. SHE IT IS WHO DWELLS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WALL."
SHE MANIFESTS HERSELF IN THE UNHEWN STONES SET AMID SACRED WATERS WHICH ARE TO BE FOUND SCATTERED OVER THE LENGTH AND BREADTH OF THE LAND AND IN THE GREAT TREES, "THE GIVERS OF BABES." HER SUPREME ATTRIBUTE IS "BESTOWER OF FERTILITY," FOR IT IS FROM EKA ABASSI THAT ALL THINGS ARE BORN. BARREN WOMEN COME TO HER APPOINTED DWELLING PLACES TO PRAY THAT THEIR CURSE MAY BE TAKEN FROM THEM, WHILE THOSE WHOSE WEE ONES HAVE PASSED ON TO THE OTHERWORLD, LAY BEFORE HER CURLS SNIPPED OF THEIR LOVED ONES HAIR... PRAYING THAT SMALL FEET MAY SOON BE SET ONCE MORE UPON THE EARTH TO GLADDEN THE HEARTS OF PARENTS UNTIMELY DESERTED FOR
ALL BABIES BORN IN THIS PART OF THE WORLD ARE SENT BY HER.
"OLD WOMEN TELL THAT, AFTER SHOWING THE PEOPLE HOW, BY HONOURING EGGS AND OVAL STONES, AND MAKING SACRIFICE TO THE GREAT MOTHER, THE GIFT OF FRUITFULNESS MIGHT BE WON, THE MAGIC BIRD FLEW BACK TO ITS HOME IN THE SKY; WHENCE, WITH FOLDED WINGS, SOFT BROODING,"
"SHE STILL WATCHES OVER THE CHILDREN OF MEN."
OFFERINGS TO THIS GODDESS ARE ALWAYS LAID UPON ALTARS BUILT OF LOGS SET CROSSWISE IN ALTERNATE LAYERS ONE ATOP THE OTHER. WHEN LESS THAN BREAST HIGH, DRY TWIGS ARE PILED ABOVE AND UPON THESE THE BODY OF A WHITE HEN IS PLACED. IT MUST BE AN OLD HEN WHO HAS LAID MANY EGGS, BUT BY REASON OF AGE CAN LAY NO MORE. FIRE IS SET TO THE TWIGS AND THE WHOLE CONSUMED, FORMING A BURNT OFFERING "SWEET IN THE NOSTRILS OF EKA ABASSI."
"MORTALS CALL HER 'MOON' AND SOMETIMES, WHEN PEOPLE ARE SLEEPING, THE MOON-BIRD FLOATS DOWN FROM HER PLACE IN THE SKY AND PECKS UP GRAINS OR OTHER FOOD, WHICH SHE FINDS LYING ABOUT. SHE LOOKS ROUND TO SEE THAT ALL IS WELL WITH THE EARTH-FOLK, AND THAT THE TABU ON FOWLS AND EGGS IS STILL OBSERVED; FOR IN OUR TOWN NEITHER MAY BE EATEN, AND, WERE THIS COMMAND BROKEN, SUDDEN DEATH WOULD FALL UPON THE OFFENDER, BY MEANS OF THE GREAT JUJU ISU NDEMM. SHOULD THE HENS HAVE ANY COMPLAINT TO MAKE ON THIS SUBJECT THEY WOULD TELL THE MOON-BIRD, AND SHE WOULD BEAR THEIR PLAINT BEFORE EKA ABASSI, WHO WOULD NOT ONLY EXACT THE DEATH OF THE ACTUAL OFFENDERS, BUT WITHDRAW HER GIFT--THUS SENDING BARRENNESS UPON ALL THE COUNTRYSIDE."

Her longing was so great that the East Wind itself took pity. She found herself buffeted and tossed by the wind's tempestuous love-making until, exhausted, she could bear it no longer and collapsed. And there inside her was conceived VAINAMOINEN, the child of the wind. Unfortunately he didn't seem inclined to make an appearance, and after seven centuries or so she began to give up hope of seeing him. Then one day she noticed a Celestial Duck flying overhead. (Okay, it wasn't a duck, it was an eagle. Have you never heard of poetic licence?)
The poor bird was desperately pregnant and looking for somewhere to land. So ILMATAR helpfully raised her knee and the bird came swooping down. Half a dozen Cosmic Eggs were laid, followed by an egg made of iron. The bird then gathered them all up, sat upon them and went to sleep...
And now ILMATAR was faced with a problem familiar to anyone with a household pet. How do you move without waking them up? Her leg was aching, her knee was hotter than an incubator and she desperately wanted to go to the bathroom. Slowly, carefully, she began to stretch out her leg.. and slowly, inevitably, the seven eggs rolled off and fell majestically into the raging sea. Now, Cosmic Eggs are delicate things, and no sooner had they touched the water than the shells cracked and a vast Cosmic Omelette was formed upon the waves. ILMATAR watched in amazement as the churning mixture solidified into Heaven and Earth. One yolk slipped into the sky to form PAIVATAR, the Sun, while the egg white became KUU, the glistening Moon. Stars were made from pieces of speckled eggshell, and thus the world was formed.
You may be wondering what happened to the iron egg. Well, the black yolk became a thundercloud. (That egg didn't have a white as you can't have a black white.)
ILMATAR was delighted with events, and busied herself shaping the lands and adding finnishing touches. And then she felt a stirring inside her. VAINAMOINEN had woken up after so many years and was eager to see the new world. He had quite a struggle to get out as no-one seemed very keen to help him, but he managed in the end and emerged, a bouncing bonny old man. We're not sure what happened to ILMATAR after that. Is she still tending to creation? What happened to the Celestial Duck? You are welcome to her feast day celebrations on 26th of August — and then perhaps you can let us know what the scrambled egg situation is.

There are many conflicting stories about this Goddess, but most agree that at some point She was also a Goddess of fear and apprehension. She is depicted with a finger sealing Her mouth in explanation of which it was said that secrecy and silence were the best remedy for fear and apprehension. According to others, She was a Goddess who relieved men from pain and sorrow. Her statue stood in Rome on the altar of "Volupia", the Goddess of pleasure, by whom She was ruled.
THE ROMAN PEOPLE CELEBRATED HER ON DECEMBER 21ST, THE FIRST DAY OF WINTER AT A FESTIVAL THEY CALLED "DIVALIA". IT WAS ON THIS DAY THAT THE PEOPLE BELIEVED THAT SHE BROUGHT BACK THE SUN, FOR AFTER THIS DAY, THE DAYLIGHT HOURS BEGAN TO INCREASE.

The Ashvins, in Hindu mythology, are divine twin horsemen in the Rigveda, sons of Saranya, a goddess of the clouds and wife of Surya in his form as Vivasvat. The Ashvins are Vedic gods symbolising the shining of sunrise and sunset, appearing in the sky before the dawn in a golden chariot, bringing treasures to men and averting misfortune and sickness. They can be compared with the Dioscuri of Greek and Roman mythology, and especially to the divine twins Asvieniai of the ancient Baltic religion. They are the doctors of gods and are devas of Ayurvedic medicine. They are called Nasatya (dual nasatyau "kind, helpful") in the Rigveda; later, Nasatya is the name of one twin, while the other is called Dasra ("enlightened giving"). By popular etymology, the name nasatya was analysed as na+asatya "not untrue"="true". In the epic Mahabharata, King Pandu's wife Madri is granted a son by each Ashvin God and bears the twins Nakula and Sahadeva who, along with the sons of Kunti, are known as the Pandavas. To each one of them is assigned the number 7 and to the pair the number 14. Ashvini is the name of an asterism in Indian astronomy, later identified with the mother of the Ashvins. This asterism forms the first of the 27 asterisms that form the zodiac in Indian astronomy. This star is identified as Hamal, the brightest star in the constellation of Aries The Ashvins are mentioned 376 times in the Rigveda, with 57 hymns specifically dedicated to them: 1.3, 1.22, 1.34, 1.46-47, 1.112, 1.116-120, 1.157-158, 1.180-184, 2.20, 3.58, 4.43-45, 5.73-78, 6.62-63, 7.67-74, 8.5, 8.8-10, 8.22, 8.26, 8.35, 8.57, 8.73, 8.85-87, 10.24, 10.39-41, 10.143.

HER ATONEMENT APPEASED THE SPIRIT BEINGS, AND ALMOST IMMEDIATELY, THE ICE BEGAN TO MELT, AND THE RIVER BEGAN TO FLOW. SUMMER CAME WITH A RUSH. NOW THE PEOPLE COULD GATHER FOOD AGAIN. IT WAS NEARLY A YEAR LATER, WHEN THE WINTER RETURNED, THAT THE CHINOOK SAW THE BLOCK OF ICE CONTAINING THE GIRL'S BODY AND FETCHED IT TO SHORE. MIRACULOUSLY, THE GIRL REVIVED AND AFTERWARD LIVED AMONG THEM AS A SACRED BEING, ABLE TO WALK UNPROTECTED, EVEN BAREFOOT, IN THE COLDEST OF WINTER AND TO COMMUNICATE WITH ITS SPIRITS. FOR THE REST OF HER LIFE SHE SERVED AS A SHAMAN FOR HER PEOPLE.

"Mighty Anahita with splendor will shine. Incarnated as a youthful divine. Full of charm her beauty she will display. Her hip with charming belt she will array. Straight-figured, she is as noble bride, Freeborn, herself in puckered dress will hide. Her cloak is all decorated with gold, With precious dress, Anahita we shall behold. (Original poem based on Kashani's Persian folk songs)
ANAHITA IS DESCRIBED BY THE ZORASTORIANS AS AN EXCEPTIONALLY TALL AND STRONG GODDESS WITH A COMMANDING APPEARANCE. SHE WAS THE DIVINE ENERGY FOR GOOD THAT WAS BELIEVED TO FLOW THROUGH THE KINGS OF IRAN, AND SHE PROTECTED THEM FROM THEIR NORTHERN INVADERS. SHE ALSO HAS A WAR ASPECT. SHE IS THE VIRGIN WARRIOR GODDESS WHO RIDES HER CHARIOT ACROSS THE SKIES; IT IS PULLED BY FOUR WHITE HORSES--WIND, RAIN, CLOUD, AND HAIL.
IT HAS BEEN SAID THAT ANAHITA HAS CELESTIAL FOUNTAINS IN HER STARS WHICH POUR WATER ONTO THE EARTH AND MAKE IT FERTILE. IN THAT RESPECT, SHE IS KNOWN AS THE GUARDIAN OF HUMAN CONCEPTION, FERTILITY, AND CHILDBIRTH. SHE PURIFIES BOTH THE WOMB AND THE SPERM AND IS LINKED WITH SACRED SEXUALITY AND DIVINE UNION.
IT IS YULE 777 B.C. AND SOMEWHERE ON A BEACH BY THE CASPIAN SEA, A YOUNG MAGI HAS BEEN KEEPING A VIGIL. HIS SOLITARY FIRE IS THE ONLY LIGHT THAT CAN BE SEEN FOR MILES AROUND; HE RECITES THE "ABAN YASHT", "THE HYMN TO THE ANGEL GODDESS, ANAHITA. THE MAGI'S NAME IS ZORASTER. BESIDES THE WAVES GENTLY CRASHING AGAINST THE SHORE, THIS IS ALL THAT CAN BE HEARD:
"ANGEL GODDESS OF ALL THE WATERS UPON THE EARTH AND THE SOURCE OF THE COSMIC OCEAN; SHE WHO DRIVES A CHARIOT PULLED BY FOUR HORSES; YOUR SYMBOL IS THE EIGHT-RAYED STAR. YOU ARE THE SOURCE OF LIFE, PURIFYING THE SEED OF ALL MALES AND THE WOMBS OF ALL FEMALES, ALSO CLEANSING THE MILK IN THE BREASTS OF ALL MOTHERS. YOUR CONNECTION WITH LIFE, MEANS WARRIORS IN BATTLE PRAYED TO YOU FOR SURVIVAL AND VICTORY. A MAID, FAIR OF BODY, MOST STRONG, TALL FORMED, HIGH-GIRDED, PURE,...WEARING A MANTLE FULLY EMBROIDERED WITH GOLD; EVER HOLDING THE BARESMA (SACRED PLANT) IN YOUR HAND...YOU WEAR SQUARE GOLDEN EARRINGS ON YOUR EARS...A GOLDEN NECKLASS AROUND YOUR BEAUTIFUL NECK...UPON YOUR HEAD...A GOLDEN CROWN, WITH A HUNDRED STARS, WITH EIGHT RAYS...WILL FILLETS STREAMING DOWN."
"(VERSES 126-128 OF THE ABAN YASHT 5) "
"LET ANAHITA GIVE YOU A GOLDEN GIFT OF SOME BEADS OR CLOTH OR A SKARF. ENJOY THE SHINING QUALITIES. WEAR YOUR SKARF OR BEADS....OR WRAP YOURSELF IN YOUR SPECIAL CLOTHES...AND FEEL THE GODDESS WITH ALL HER POWER. "

Yama, also known as Yamaraja in India, Shinje in Tibet, Yamano in South Korea, Yanluowang or simply Yan in China, and Enma Dai-O in Japan, is the lord of death, first recorded in the Vedas. The name Yanluo is a shortened Chinese transliteration of the Sanskrit term Yama Raja, or "King Yama". Enma Dai-O is a further transliteration, meaning "Great King Yama", where Enma means Yama, Enma-O means Yama Raja and Enma Dai-O would be equivalent to Yama Maharaja. Yama belongs to an early stratum of Vedic mythology. In Vedic tradition Yama was considered to have been the first mortal who died and espied the way to the celestial abodes, and in virtue of precedence he became the ruler of the departed. Yama's name can be interpreted to mean "twin", and in some myths he is paired with a twin sister Yami.
According to the popular version of the mythological origins of Yama (the god of death), a holy man was once told that if he spent fifty years living in deep meditation in a cave, he would reach enlightenment. On the night of the twenty-ninth day of the eleventh month of the forty-ninth year, two robbers entered his cave with a stolen bull whose head they proceeded to cut off. When they realized that the hermit had witnessed their act, they decided to kill him. He begged them to spare his life, explaining that in a few minutes he would reach enlightenment and that all his efforts would be lost if they killed him before the expiration of the fifty years. The thieves ignored his request and cut off his head. Immediately, he assumed the ferocious form of Yama and put the bull's head on his own headless body. He then killed the two robbers and drank their blood from cups made from their skulls. In his fury, he threatened to destroy the entire population of Tibet. The Tibetan people appealed to the deity Manjushri (the Bodhisattva of wisdom), to protect them from Yama. Manjushri then had to assume the form of Yamantaka, defeating Yama, and turning him into a protector of Buddhism, in order to save the people.
With a dark body lunging wildly across the back of his bull mount, wearing a profusion of macabre jewelry, Yama here has a buffalo's head and waves a skull-headed club. He glares with puffed-up snouts straight at the viewer.
The background aureole coils are sculpted with much grace and expression of movement. The flames curl to one side and leap out at the other. This transverse motion enhances the dynamic body posture of the deity, lending to it vitality and vigor.

In Roman mythology, Quirinus was a mysterious god.
His name derives from"-"men together"; as such, he embodied the military and economic strength of the Roman populus collectively. He also watched over the "senate house" and tribal assembly", the names of which are cognate with his own. His name has also been connected with the Sabine word for spear "and to the Sabine town "Its inhabitants were called Quirites, a name that was transfered to the community of Sabines and Romans joined under Romulus; the Romans referred to themselves as "their civil entity and as "in their political and military capacity.
Quirinus was originally a Sabine god of storms and thunder. Sabines had a settlement near the future site of Rome, and they called one of their sites, in which they had erected an altar, the ("Quirinal Hill") after Quirinus; this area was later included among the Seven hills of Rome, and Quirinus became one of the most important gods of the state, as associated with Romulus.
Quirinus' wife was Hora. In art, he was portrayed as a bearded man with religious and military clothing. He was sometimes associated with the myrtle plant.
In the legend, Romulus was taken bodily up to heaven in a cloud and appeared afterward to Julius Proculus with the injunction that the Quirites should not mourn him but rather worship the new god Quirinus and cultivate their ancestral art of war. Quirinus was originally part of the archaic Roman triad, along with Jupiter and Mars. He was concerned with promoting the general welfare of the Roman people. The triad retained this focus even after Quirinus was replaced as its third member by the goddess Minerva, circa 200 BCE.
This was also a special day of devotion to those who lived on the Quirinal Hill, one of the seven hills of Rome, where the Sabine settlement was found. Also on this hill is the oldest shrine of Jupiter, the large gardens of Julius Caesar, Constantine's famous baths, a palace and garden for the Roman Catholic popes; it is currently the official residence and offices of the President of the Italian Republic.
This day was also known as the Feast of Fools ( Stultorum Festa ) and often coincided with the Festival of Fornax (the"), a goddess to whom they prayed to keep the oven heat right for the grain. This feast is thought to mark the transition of the Romans from warriors to farmer, learning through trial and error to properly grow, prepare and cook grain.
