SIF is the Norse Goddess of beauty and fertility. The wife of Thor, she has beautiful long golden hair. In one myth, the trickster God Loki sneaks into Sif's bedroom and cuts off her hair. Thor is furious, and threatens to kill Loki unless he can replace her hair. Loki finds some dwarves in a cave, the sons of Ivaldi, and has them spin gold into hair for Sif. The dwarves then enchanted the fine strands of gold so that they would grow just as real hair. Sif's name means "wife", and she is the mother of a son named Ullr ("the magnificent"), God of winter and skiing, by her first husband, the giant Orvandil. By her second husband, Thor, she has a daughter, Thrud ("might"), Goddess of storms and clouds.

The Devil corresponds to the sign of Capricorn as is indicated by the goat's hindquarters of the demon, making the card a symbol of the animal or carnal side of earthly life. The Hebrew letter attributed to this card is Ayin, an eye, and represents the path that joins the solar Tiphareth with the mercurial Hod, implying that the Devil's power lies in creating an awareness of intelligence, hinting also at the original sin of becoming aware of good and evil.
Although this card is often misinterpreted as indicating sin and evil, its true meaning indicates ambition, drive, passions and essential life forces. Poorly dignified in a spread it may also be interpreted as temptations, distraction in physical desires and even obsession or, in extreme instances, possession by adverse or harmful forces. Its most esoteric meaning indicates the influence of a secret or essential force in the question.
SHE ALSO POSSESSES HEALING QUALITIES AS ONE WOULD EXPECT FROM A GODDESS WITH WATERY ASSOCIATIONS, AND LEGEND HAS IT THAT SHE TRAVELS WITH THREE MAGICAL BIRDS WHO SANG SO SWEETLY THAT THEY HEALTH SICK WHILE THEY SLEEP. CLIODNA IS THE MATRON OF THE WAVES, ESPECIALLY THE LARGE WAVES AND THE NINTH WAVE OF EVERY SERIES OF WAVES THAT BREAK THE SHORE WHICH IS SAID TO EMBODY HER. SEA BIRDS, SAND DOLLARS, ABALONE SHELLS ARE ALL SACRED TO THIS GODDESS.
THEY SAY SHE IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL WOMAN ON EARTH, AND SHE OFTEN TAKES MORTAL MEN FOR LOVERS, BUT BEING LOVED BY CLIODNA CAN MEAN BEING LOVED TO DEATH FOR SHE TAKES THEM TO THE OTHERWORLD; HENCE, THEY ARE NEVER SEEN AGAIN. IN ONE OF HER LOVE STORIES, SHE FELL IN LOVE WITH THE HANDSOME CIABHAN AND THE TWO TRIED TO RUN AWAY TOGETHER. THE PAIR MANAGED TO LAND THE SHORE OF IRELAND, BUT AS CIABHAN WENT TO GO HUNTING, THE JEALOUS MANNAN, THE SEA GOD, CAME AFTER THEM. HE PLAYED MUSIC FOR CLIODNA UNTIL HE PUT HER INTO AN ENCHANTED SLEEP; HE SENT A HUGE WAVE THAT DREW HER BACK HOME TO THE OTHERWORLD; CLIABHAN WAS DROWNED BY THE SAME WAVE. SHE WAS THEN NEVER ALLOWED TO LEAVE THE OTHERWORLD AGAIN.
THE IRISH LANDMARK, TONN CLIODNA WAS NAMED IN HER HONOR.
