ARDVI SURA ANAHITA "IS THE PERSIAN GODDESS BELIEVED TO THE "MOTHER OF THE STARS." SHE IS THE HIGH, POWERFUL, UNDEFILED ONE. UPON HER HEAD SHE WEARS A GOLD CROWN WITH A HUNDRED STARS AND A GARMENT MADE OF BEAVER SKINS. SHE IS HONORED ANNUALLY ON THIS DATE WITH A SACRED FESTIVAL CALLED THE "ARDVI SURA" OR "THE DAY OF ARDVI" WHICH TAKES PLACE UNDER THE NIGHTTIME STARS. THE FESTIVAL CONTINUES TO THIS DAY. SHE DRIVES A CHARIOT PULLED BY FOUR HORSES..."WIND, RAIN, CLOUD, AND SLEET." BECAUSE OF HER CONNECTION WITH LIFE, WARRIORS IN BATTLE PRAYED TO HER FOR SURVIVAL AND VICTORY.
She was also the heavenly source of all waters on earth as well as the source of great the cosmic ocean, and as the Goddess of pure waters and fertility, Her temples were built near natural springs, rivers, or lakes. Her fountains are at the top of a mythical mountain in the star region and the waters flow down to nourish the earth. She is identified with a sacred river, the mighty "Aredvi," the largest river on earth. It waters the lands for miles and miles before it splashes into the sea.
