"ARDUINNA "IS THE CELTIC "GODDESS" OF THE MOON, FORESTS AND THE WILD WOODS. SHE RULES OVER THE WOODLANDS AND THE ANIMALS. SHE PROTECTS HUMAN HUNTERS AND WILD BOARS, MAINTAINING A SACRED BALANCE BETWEEN THEM. SHE IS THE PRESIDING divinity over the forest of "Ardennes", once a heavily forested region. "Arduinna "rides naked through the forests on a boar, extracting a fine of money for every animal killed in Her wood. In addition, Her people were expected to bring Her sacrificial animals on feast days.

WHEN THE ROMANS CAME TO GAUL, THEY ASSOCIATED HER WITH "DIANA," ANOTHER FOREST GODDESS. THE "ARDENNES" WAS A LONG PAGAN STRONGHOLD, BUT EVENTUALLY, "ARDWINNA WAS ENTREATED AS A WOOD SPIRIT AT THE BEGINNING OF THE ANNUAL BOAR HUNT EVEN AFTER THE COMING OF CHRISTIANITY.
