The YOMOTSU-SHIKOME are Japanese demons of the underworld (Yomi). When the God Izanagi ran away from his wife, the Goddess Izanami, in the underworld, she sent the Yomotsu-shikome to chase him. Izanagi managed to escape them, first by throwing down his headdress which turned into grapes that the Yomotsu-shikome stopped to eat. When they returned to their pursuit, Izanagi threw down a comb which turned into bamboo shoots, and the Yomotsu-shikome again stopped to eat. They were catching up to Izanagi a third time when he urinated against a tree and created a river that stopped them from following. The Yomotsu-shikome, whose name means "ugly women of Yomi," are also known as YOMOTSU-HISAME, meaning "hags of Yomi."

VERdANDI is the Norse Goddess of present fate. She is the middle of the three Norns, Goddesses of destiny. The Norns are in charge of the World Tree, Yggdrasil. Every day, they take water from the Well of Fate, mix it with clay, and pour it over the tree's branches. This stops it from decaying.
Verdandi, as the middle of the Norns, rules over the present. Her name means "that which is". Verdandi winds the thread of life after it is spun by her older sister Urd; the youngest sister, Skuld, then cuts the thread at the appointed time, ending the life. As the Norn of the present, Verdandi is depicted looking straight ahead, as compared to her sisters who look either backward to the past or forward to the future. Her name is also seen as VERDANDI or VERTHANDI.
