Goddess Rhea Cover
In Greek mythology, Rhea is the mother of the gods, daughter of Uranus and Gaia. She is married to her brother Cronus and is the mother of Demeter, Hades, Hera, Hestia, Poseidon and Zeus.

Cronus, jealous of the future power of his children and to secure his dominion, hate his own children but Rhea managed to rescue one son, Zeus. She hid him in the Dictean Cave in Crete and gave Cronus a stone wrapped in the clothes of the infant, which he swallowed. Thus Rhea succeeded in making him believe that he had killed all of his children. When Zeus reached maturity he overpowered and dethroned his father and made Cronus disgorge his siblings.

Rhea is identified with mother goddess Cybele from Asia Minor and is also known as Rhea Cybele and Magna Mater {'great mother'}. She was worshipped with orgiastic rites. Rhea is depicted between two lions or on a chariot pulled by lions.

Laka Goddess Of The Forest Image
"LAKA" IS THE GODDESS OF THE FOREST, OF ITS GROWTH, FERTILITY, ALL VEGETATION, RAIN AND LOVE; SHE IS THE PATRONESS OF THE DANCE AND HULA. SHE IS THE DAUGHTER OF KAPO AND THE GENTLE SISTER OF THE FIERY GODDESS PELE. HER NAME MEANS "GENTLE, DOCILE. "HER GRACE REPRESENTS THE ESSENCE OF HARMONY, STRENGTH, AND COURAGE. SHE REPRESENTS THE WILD WOODS WHERE THE HULA DANCERS GATHER THEIR FLOWERS, THE LEIS, AND THE FERNS FOR THE ADORNMENT OF THEIR BODIES. AS THE VEGETATION GODDESS, SHE IS ASSOCIATED WITH THE NOURISHING ELEMENTS OF LIGHT AND RAIN. SHE IS THE SACRED GUARDIAN OF THE SUNSHINE. HERBS ARE HER SACRED GIFT TO MANKIND.

LAKA IS MOST WELL-KNOWN FOR CREATING THE HULA, A FORM OF DANCE WHICH IS ACCOMPANIED BY CHANT OR SONG. IT IS THROUGH THE HULA THAT THE HAWAIIAN PEOPLE RECORD THEIR HISTORY AND PASS IT ON TO FUTURE GENERATIONS. THIS WAS LAKA'S GIFT TO HER PEOPLE. EVEN TODAY, AN ALTAR OR OFFERING IS PREPARED IN HONOR OF THE GODDESS. BEFORE PERFORMING HULA, THE ALTAR IS BUILT AND FILLED WITH GREENERY AND AT THE END OF THE DANCE, IT IS DISMANTLED, AND EVERY LEAF IS TAKEN TO THE OCEAN OR A DEEP STREAM AS A WAY TO HONOR LAKA. IRONICALLY, ALTHOUGH PRAYERS ARE ADDRESSED TO THE GODDESS IN MANY HULA PERFORMANCES, FEW, IF ANY HULAS ARE EVER DEDICATED TO HER.

"LAKA INVITES US ALL TO DANCE JOYFULLY UPON THE EARTH"

"PANACEA" IS THE GREEK GODDESS OF HEALTH AND HEALING, THE PERSONIFICATION OF HEALING THROUGH HERBS. AND, ALTHOUGH SHE WAS CONSIDERED A MINOR GODDESS, HER NAME SURVIVES TODAY AS A TERM USED FOR A CURE-ALL OR A REMEDY. SHE WAS THE DAUGHTER OF ASCLEPIUS, THE GOD OF HEALING AND MEDICINE AND HIS HEALING WIFE, EPIONE. SHE IS THE GRANDDAUGHTER OF APOLLO.

PANACEA AND HER SISTERS EACH PERFORMED A FACET IN THE ART OF HEALING. PANACEA WAS THE GODDESS OF CURES; IASO WAS THE GODDESS OF RECUPERATION; HYGIEIA WAS THE GODDESS OF DISEASE PREVENTION. ACESO WAS THE GODDESS OF RECOVERY; AND AGLAEA WAS THE GODDESS OF NATURAL BEAUTY.

IT HAS BEEN SAID THAT PANACEA HAD A POULTICE OF A POTION WITH WHICH SHE HEALED THE SICK. THIS IS WHAT BROUGHT ABOUT THE CONCEPT OF THE PANACEA IN MEDICINE. THE RIVER, PANEGA, IS NAMED AFTER PANCEA.
