In Roman mythology, Cupid (Latin cupido, meaning "desire") is the god of desire, affection erotic love. He is also known by another one of his Latin names, Amor. He is the son of goddess Venus and god Mars. In popular culture Cupid is frequently shown shooting his bow to inspire romantic love, often as an icon of Valentine's Day. He is now in the current culture the personification of love and courtship in general. For the equivalent deity in Greek mythology, see Eros.

Goddess Laka

LAKA is the Hawaiian Goddess of the hula and also of vegetation. She is the daughter of Pele's sister Hi'iaka-i-kapua-'ena'ena, and is married to Lono, God of fertility and peace. Hula dancers often make offerings to Laka before their dance. She is usually depicted wearing something yellow, with flowers in her hair and dancing.

Xipe Totec

In Aztec mythology, Xipe Totec ("our lord the flayed one") was a life-death-rebirth deity, god of agriculture, the west, disease, spring, goldsmiths and the seasons. He flayed himself to give food to humanity, symbolic of the maize seed losing the outer layer of the seed before germination. Without his skin, he was depicted as a golden god.

Annually, slaves were selected as sacrifices to Xipe Totec. These slaves were carefully flayed to produce a nearly whole skin which was then worn by the priests during the fertility rituals that followed the sacrifice. Some accounts indicate that a thigh bone from the sacrifice was defleshed and used by the priest to touch spectators in a fertility blessing. Paintings and several clay figures have been found which illustrate the flaying method and the appearance of priests wearing flayed skins.

IT IS SAID BY SOME THAT SHE WAS ONE OF THE EARLIEST TITANS AND THE DAUGHTER OF "GAIA" AND "OURANOS. " HER NAME LITERALLY MEANS "GODDESS". IN LATER GREEK LEGEND, "DIONE" IS AN "OCEANID," DAUGHTER OF THE OCEAN, THE CONSORT OF "ZEUS", AND THE MOTHER OF "APHRODITE".

OTHERS CLAIM THAT "DIONE" WAS AN EARTH AND MOTHER GODDESS WITH A BACKGROUND SIMILAR TO THAT OF "DEMETER". SHE WAS ADORED AT THE ORACULAR SHRINE OF "DADON"A IN "PELASGIAN," GREECE WHERE "DANAAN" PRIESTESSES WORSHIPPED "OAKS "AS MANIFESTATIONS OF THE "GODDESS DIONE..."UNTIL, BY COMMAND OF AN ORACLE," ZEUS" WAS INTRODUCED, WHEN, FOR A TIME, BOTH DIVINITIES WERE WORSHIPPED CONJOINTLY, AND BOTH THEIR EFFIGIES APPEARED ON GREEK COINS. BUT EVENTUALLY" DIONE" WAS ALL BUT FORGOTTEN.

TODAY, "DIONE" IS A MOON OF "SATURN" DISCOVERED BY GIOVANNI CASSINI IN 1684.
