INEMES is the Micronesian Goddess of love and sexuality. When a man or a woman wished to attract the attentions of a potential lover, they would approach an older woman in the community to assist them in preparing a love charm. The wise woman would prepare a charm to be carried or a potion to be slipped into the drink of the intended, and the suitor also invoked Inemes every morning to aid in their magic. If someone thought that they were the object of love magic and did not wish to be, they could negate the magic by rubbing water from preserved breadfruit over their body, since preserved breadfruit was offensive to Inemes. Inemes, whose name means "Mother Age-Worn", is still invoked in love magic today.

A Finnish goddess, Daughter of the Air. She created the world. Sometimes she is called Luonnotar, Daughter of Creation. In the beginning there was only ILMATAR, the void and a great deal of wind. ILMATAR, tired of counting rainbows and letting the wind play with her hair, began to long for a son.
Her longing was so great that the East Wind itself took pity. She found herself buffeted and tossed by the wind's tempestuous love-making until, exhausted, she could bear it no longer and collapsed. And there inside her was conceived VAINAMOINEN, the child of the wind. Unfortunately he didn't seem inclined to make an appearance, and after seven centuries or so she began to give up hope of seeing him. Then one day she noticed a Celestial Duck flying overhead. (Okay, it wasn't a duck, it was an eagle. Have you never heard of poetic licence?)
The poor bird was desperately pregnant and looking for somewhere to land. So ILMATAR helpfully raised her knee and the bird came swooping down. Half a dozen Cosmic Eggs were laid, followed by an egg made of iron. The bird then gathered them all up, sat upon them and went to sleep...
And now ILMATAR was faced with a problem familiar to anyone with a household pet. How do you move without waking them up? Her leg was aching, her knee was hotter than an incubator and she desperately wanted to go to the bathroom. Slowly, carefully, she began to stretch out her leg.. and slowly, inevitably, the seven eggs rolled off and fell majestically into the raging sea. Now, Cosmic Eggs are delicate things, and no sooner had they touched the water than the shells cracked and a vast Cosmic Omelette was formed upon the waves. ILMATAR watched in amazement as the churning mixture solidified into Heaven and Earth. One yolk slipped into the sky to form PAIVATAR, the Sun, while the egg white became KUU, the glistening Moon. Stars were made from pieces of speckled eggshell, and thus the world was formed.
You may be wondering what happened to the iron egg. Well, the black yolk became a thundercloud. (That egg didn't have a white as you can't have a black white.)
ILMATAR was delighted with events, and busied herself shaping the lands and adding finnishing touches. And then she felt a stirring inside her. VAINAMOINEN had woken up after so many years and was eager to see the new world. He had quite a struggle to get out as no-one seemed very keen to help him, but he managed in the end and emerged, a bouncing bonny old man. We're not sure what happened to ILMATAR after that. Is she still tending to creation? What happened to the Celestial Duck? You are welcome to her feast day celebrations on 26th of August — and then perhaps you can let us know what the scrambled egg situation is.

UHAMIRI is the Ibo Goddess of the lake Oguta in Nigeria. She is one of the Mami Wata, water spirits known throughout western and central Africa. Uhamiri, like most of the Mami Wata, is usually represented as either a mermaid or a very beautiful woman. She has long black hair that she combs with a golden comb. Although the Mami Wata appear as women, their beauty shows them to be more than mortal: they have hair longer, darker, and finer than mortal women, and their jewelry is so bright that it can blind the viewer. Uhamiri brings health and well-being to her followers, but it often comes with a price. To women who seek her, she will bring either fertility or beauty and wealth, but not both. When she appears to a man, she may ask him to promise to be faithful to her. If he is, she will bring him wealth and prominence. If he betrays her, she will take away everything he has worked for and leave him broken.

"ANGERONA" WAS AN OLD ROMAN GODDESS OF DEATH, THE "WINTER SOLSTICE", AND SECRECY. IN HER EARLIEST FORM SHE WAS THE GODDESS OF WINTER. SHE WAS THE PROTECTING GODDESS OF ROME AND THE SECRET KEEPER OF THE SACRED NAME OF THE CITY. DURING THE ANCIENT TIMES, NAMES WERE CONSIDERED VERY POWERFUL, AND OFTEN PEOPLE'S NAME AND THE NAMES OF COMMUNITIES WERE NOT REAL AT ALL. IT IS BECAUSE OF THIS THAT IT IS CONSIDERED LIKELY THAT THE CULT OF ANGERONA PROTECTED THE SECRET NAME OF ROME.
There are many conflicting stories about this Goddess, but most agree that at some point She was also a Goddess of fear and apprehension. She is depicted with a finger sealing Her mouth in explanation of which it was said that secrecy and silence were the best remedy for fear and apprehension. According to others, She was a Goddess who relieved men from pain and sorrow. Her statue stood in Rome on the altar of "Volupia", the Goddess of pleasure, by whom She was ruled.
THE ROMAN PEOPLE CELEBRATED HER ON DECEMBER 21ST, THE FIRST DAY OF WINTER AT A FESTIVAL THEY CALLED "DIVALIA". IT WAS ON THIS DAY THAT THE PEOPLE BELIEVED THAT SHE BROUGHT BACK THE SUN, FOR AFTER THIS DAY, THE DAYLIGHT HOURS BEGAN TO INCREASE.

ABA is one of the Greek Naiades. The Naiades were generally thought to be daughters of an Okeanid mother (the 3000 daughters of Tethys and Okeanos, Goddesses of fresh water sources) and a Potamoi father (the 3000 sons of Tethys and Okeanos, Gods of the rivers). Naiades were particularly responsible for water that came up from the earth, such as springs, fountains, and wells. Aba watched over a spring in Thrace, and after a dalliance with Poseidon, God of the sea, she had a son named Ergiskos, who founded the city of Ergiske near his mother's spring.

The Ashvins, in Hindu mythology, are divine twin horsemen in the Rigveda, sons of Saranya, a goddess of the clouds and wife of Surya in his form as Vivasvat. The Ashvins are Vedic gods symbolising the shining of sunrise and sunset, appearing in the sky before the dawn in a golden chariot, bringing treasures to men and averting misfortune and sickness. They can be compared with the Dioscuri of Greek and Roman mythology, and especially to the divine twins Asvieniai of the ancient Baltic religion. They are the doctors of gods and are devas of Ayurvedic medicine. They are called Nasatya (dual nasatyau "kind, helpful") in the Rigveda; later, Nasatya is the name of one twin, while the other is called Dasra ("enlightened giving"). By popular etymology, the name nasatya was analysed as na+asatya "not untrue"="true". In the epic Mahabharata, King Pandu's wife Madri is granted a son by each Ashvin God and bears the twins Nakula and Sahadeva who, along with the sons of Kunti, are known as the Pandavas. To each one of them is assigned the number 7 and to the pair the number 14. Ashvini is the name of an asterism in Indian astronomy, later identified with the mother of the Ashvins. This asterism forms the first of the 27 asterisms that form the zodiac in Indian astronomy. This star is identified as Hamal, the brightest star in the constellation of Aries The Ashvins are mentioned 376 times in the Rigveda, with 57 hymns specifically dedicated to them: 1.3, 1.22, 1.34, 1.46-47, 1.112, 1.116-120, 1.157-158, 1.180-184, 2.20, 3.58, 4.43-45, 5.73-78, 6.62-63, 7.67-74, 8.5, 8.8-10, 8.22, 8.26, 8.35, 8.57, 8.73, 8.85-87, 10.24, 10.39-41, 10.143.

ASTERIA (pronounced as-TARE-ee-uh) is the Greek Goddess of the oracles of the night, such as astrology and dream interpretation. She is the daughter of the Titans Phoebe and Koios, sister of Leto, Goddess of the oracles of the day. With Perses, God of destruction, she is the mother of Hekate, Goddess of crossroads and doorways, as well as the shadows of the night. Asteria was pursued by Zeus, but instead of falling victim to his embrace, she turned herself into a quail and flung herself into the sea. She was transformed into an island, at first called Asteria and then Ortygia (from the Greek "ortux", meaning "quail"). Even as an island, Asteria was not safe--Zeus's brother Poseidon pursued her, and the island moved around in the sea to escape him. When her sister Leto, pregnant with Zeus's children Apollo and Artemis, was pursued by a jealous Hera, Asteria called to her and offered her a safe place to give birth. When Leto landed on the island, the seabed rose up and anchored the island in place. Apollo later named the island Delos (meaning "brought to light"). Asteria's name means "starry."

Yama, also known as Yamaraja in India, Shinje in Tibet, Yamano in South Korea, Yanluowang or simply Yan in China, and Enma Dai-O in Japan, is the lord of death, first recorded in the Vedas. The name Yanluo is a shortened Chinese transliteration of the Sanskrit term Yama Raja, or "King Yama". Enma Dai-O is a further transliteration, meaning "Great King Yama", where Enma means Yama, Enma-O means Yama Raja and Enma Dai-O would be equivalent to Yama Maharaja. Yama belongs to an early stratum of Vedic mythology. In Vedic tradition Yama was considered to have been the first mortal who died and espied the way to the celestial abodes, and in virtue of precedence he became the ruler of the departed. Yama's name can be interpreted to mean "twin", and in some myths he is paired with a twin sister Yami.
According to the popular version of the mythological origins of Yama (the god of death), a holy man was once told that if he spent fifty years living in deep meditation in a cave, he would reach enlightenment. On the night of the twenty-ninth day of the eleventh month of the forty-ninth year, two robbers entered his cave with a stolen bull whose head they proceeded to cut off. When they realized that the hermit had witnessed their act, they decided to kill him. He begged them to spare his life, explaining that in a few minutes he would reach enlightenment and that all his efforts would be lost if they killed him before the expiration of the fifty years. The thieves ignored his request and cut off his head. Immediately, he assumed the ferocious form of Yama and put the bull's head on his own headless body. He then killed the two robbers and drank their blood from cups made from their skulls. In his fury, he threatened to destroy the entire population of Tibet. The Tibetan people appealed to the deity Manjushri (the Bodhisattva of wisdom), to protect them from Yama. Manjushri then had to assume the form of Yamantaka, defeating Yama, and turning him into a protector of Buddhism, in order to save the people.
With a dark body lunging wildly across the back of his bull mount, wearing a profusion of macabre jewelry, Yama here has a buffalo's head and waves a skull-headed club. He glares with puffed-up snouts straight at the viewer.
The background aureole coils are sculpted with much grace and expression of movement. The flames curl to one side and leap out at the other. This transverse motion enhances the dynamic body posture of the deity, lending to it vitality and vigor.

Chukwu is the infinitely powerful, undefinable, indefinable, absolute supreme deity encompassing everything in space and space itself, in traditional Igbo spiritual belief system and Igbo mythology. Linguistic studies of the Igbo language suggest that the name "Chukwu" is a portmanteau of the Igbo words "Chi" ("spiritual being") and "Ukwu" ("great in size"). In the Igbo pantheon, Chukwu is where the source other Igbo deities originate from and are assigned different tasks. The Igbo people believe that all things come from Chukwu including the deities who brings the rains necessary for plants to grow and controls everything on earth and the spiritual world.

QUIRINA'LIA - was the religious holiday of Quirinus, the warlike, divine incarnation of Romulus, The festival was celebrated on the 17th of February, on which day Romulus ( Quirinus ) was said to have been carried up to heaven. It is also known as the Feast of Fools and was a day on which public sacrifice ( feria publica ) was offered and on which no assemblies could meet.
In Roman mythology, Quirinus was a mysterious god.
His name derives from"-"men together"; as such, he embodied the military and economic strength of the Roman populus collectively. He also watched over the "senate house" and tribal assembly", the names of which are cognate with his own. His name has also been connected with the Sabine word for spear "and to the Sabine town "Its inhabitants were called Quirites, a name that was transfered to the community of Sabines and Romans joined under Romulus; the Romans referred to themselves as "their civil entity and as "in their political and military capacity.
Quirinus was originally a Sabine god of storms and thunder. Sabines had a settlement near the future site of Rome, and they called one of their sites, in which they had erected an altar, the ("Quirinal Hill") after Quirinus; this area was later included among the Seven hills of Rome, and Quirinus became one of the most important gods of the state, as associated with Romulus.
Quirinus' wife was Hora. In art, he was portrayed as a bearded man with religious and military clothing. He was sometimes associated with the myrtle plant.
In the legend, Romulus was taken bodily up to heaven in a cloud and appeared afterward to Julius Proculus with the injunction that the Quirites should not mourn him but rather worship the new god Quirinus and cultivate their ancestral art of war. Quirinus was originally part of the archaic Roman triad, along with Jupiter and Mars. He was concerned with promoting the general welfare of the Roman people. The triad retained this focus even after Quirinus was replaced as its third member by the goddess Minerva, circa 200 BCE.
This was also a special day of devotion to those who lived on the Quirinal Hill, one of the seven hills of Rome, where the Sabine settlement was found. Also on this hill is the oldest shrine of Jupiter, the large gardens of Julius Caesar, Constantine's famous baths, a palace and garden for the Roman Catholic popes; it is currently the official residence and offices of the President of the Italian Republic.
This day was also known as the Feast of Fools ( Stultorum Festa ) and often coincided with the Festival of Fornax (the"), a goddess to whom they prayed to keep the oven heat right for the grain. This feast is thought to mark the transition of the Romans from warriors to farmer, learning through trial and error to properly grow, prepare and cook grain.
