She was born on the battlefield, to kill an unstoppable foe the gods dreaded. Not only did Kali enjoy drinking his blood, she destroyed him and all other demons present. Her ecstatic dancing can get out of hand, and she even trampled her future husband.
Although connected to some dark groups such as the Thugees, she is most often seen as a loving and protective mother. Anyone can appeal to Kali for help and she will listen. Keep in mind though that if she sees a request as evil she will act against you.
That pretty necklace she always wears is made out of demon heads. But as you can see, she likes pretty flowers too. In the future her dancing is said to be set to destroy the physical world and make way for a spiritual one.

Listen to the words of the Dark Mother, who of old was called Hecate, Nuit, Morrigan, Banba, Erda, Macha, MotherNight, Sekhmet, and many other names:
Whenever you seek wisdom, at the time of the Darkening Moon, come together in love and trust and learn of Me, who am the Wisest of Crones...Ye who search the mysteries of the Earth, the secrets of Air and Darkness, of Blood and Fire, the silence of the uttermost stars, come unto me, and I shall whisper to you in the depths of midnight.
Ye shall approach Me in silence, and as a sign that ye are free from fear, your breast you shall bare to My blade...for fear has no place in My mysteries, and that which you seek of me will destroy you if you fear it.
For I am the dolmen arch beyond which stretch the mysteries of infinity. I am the silence before birth and after death. I am the clouded mirror in which you scry your own soul. I am mist in the twilight, the vast and starry sky of midnight, shadows on the Moon.
All things come to Me in the end, and yet I am the beginning of all. I meet you at the crossroads, I lead you through the darkness, My hand you grasp in the passage between the worlds. To those that toy with Me am I an instrument of self-destruction. yet to the true seeker do I bring knowledge beyond mortal comprehension.
Of you shall I demand the utter truth of all that you are, and in return shall I give you all that you may be, all that I am. For My wisdom is beyond the Ages, and knowledge of My Secrets is power over self, over fear, over death. Nor do I demand aught of you which you cannot give. For I am the Mother of Mysteries, and as you know Me, so shall you learn to know yourself.

THISBE (pronounced THIZ-bee) is a Babylonian Goddess of unrequited love. She was the fairest maiden in her village, and her next door neighbour Pyramus was the most handsome young man. They were deeply in love, but their parents forbid them to see each other. They continued to converse through a crack in the wall between their houses, and made plans to run away together.
Thisbe was the first to reach their intended rendezvous point, a white mulberry tree next to a spring just outside their village. As Thisbe waited, a lioness came to drink from the spring, her mouth dripping with blood from a recent kill. Thisbe, frightened by the lioness, ran off to a nearby cave, but in her haste she left behind her cloak, which had been a gift from Pyramus. The lioness, seeing the cloak, tossed it around in her mouth, leaving it bloody and torn.
Pyramus finally arrived at the mulberry tree, where he found Thisbe's bloody cloak and saw the footprints of the lioness. Fearing the worst, he blamed himself for persuading Thisbe to meet him alone. Pyramus took out his sword and drove it into his heart, thinking that he would meet his beloved in the next world.
In the nearby cave, Thisbe heard Pyramus cry out and rushed to his side. He opened his eyes long enough to see her, and then slipped away. Thisbe then took Pyramus's sword and stabbed herself too, so that they could be together forever. Their blood splashed on to the mulberry tree and soaked down to its roots. The berries on the tree turned red, and have stayed that way ever since.

DARK MOON, BLACK MOON, SOMETIMES CALLED LILLITH; SHE IS KNOWN BY SEVERAL NAMES. THE DARK MOON AND THE NEW MOON ARE NOT THE SAME. THE DARK OF THE MOON IS TRADITIONALLY THE LAST THREE DAYS OF THE LUNAR CYCLE AND THE TIME WHEN THE NIGHT SKY IS NOTABLY ABSENT THE PRESENCE OF THE MOON. THE NEW MOON IS THE FIRST DAY IN THE WAXING MOON CYCLE WHEN THE MOON IS A SLIVER OF WHITE IN THE SKY.
WHEN THE DARK MOON APPEARS, IT BECOMES EASIER FOR US TO SHED OUR UNNECESSARY BAGGAGE; THUS, THE DARK MOON PHASE IS FOR BANISHING NEGATIVE ASPECTS, ENERGIES, OR HABITS. IT IS A TIME TO CLEANSE OURSELVES AND CREATE SPACE SO THE NEW CAN ENTER. THE ENERGY OF THE DARK MOON SYMBOLIZES THE INNER SPIRAL OR LABYRINTH; IT IS THE PHYSICAL MANIFESTATION OF TURNING INWARD. SINCE THERE IS NO LIGHT DURING THE DARK MOON PHASE, ONE IS UNABLE TO DRAW THE LIGHT INTO THE CIRCLE, THE DARKNESS THAT ENCASES THE INNER MYSTERIES CAN BE DRAWN IN AND USED TO FIND ONE'S OWN INNER LIGHT.
DRAWING ON THE DARKNESS DOES NOT MEAN THAT YOU ARE DRAWING NEGATIVITY TOWARD YOU; INSTEAD, THE IDEA IS TO BECOME ONE WITH THE DARK IN ORDER TO DO THE WORK OF INNER TRANSFORMATION WITHOUT OUTSIDE ANY INFLUENCES OR STIMULI. ONLY THEN WILL YOU BE ABLE BANISH THE NEGATIVE BY FACING YOUR OWN SHADOW, THE DARKER SIDE OF OUR NATURE, AND TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR WHAT IS CONTAINED THERE. THUS, BY USING THE DARKNESS AS A PRODUCTIVE TOOL, YOU WILL GAIN A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF YOURSELF AND HOW YOU PARTICIPATE IN CREATING WHAT MANIFESTS IN YOUR OUTER LIFE.
ONE WAY TO HARNESS THE DARK MOON IS THROUGH PERFORMING A RITUAL. LIGHT A BLACK CANDLE; THEN VISUALIZE THE DIFFERENT PARTS OF YOUR LIFE THAT YOU HAVE OUTGROWN OR CAUSE YOU PAIN SUCH AS ADDICTIONS..DRUGS, ALCOHOL, OVEREATING. THROUGH YOUR VISUALIZATION, BIND THESE PARTS TOGETHER WITH LIGHT AND WATCH THIS BUNDLE AS IT MOVES TOWARD THE CANDLE. WATCH THESE OLD PARTS AS THEY ARE DEVOURED BY THE FLAME; LET THE CANDLE BURN OUT, AND TRUST THAT WHAT YOU HAVE RELEASED HAS LEFT YOU.

"(AS EOS FIRST SPREAD HER YELLOW ROBE ACROSS THE EARTH, THUNDER-LOVING ZEUS ANNOUNCED AN ASSEMBLY OF THE GODS ON THE HIGHEST CREST OF MANY-RIDGED OLYMPUS.) HOMER'S ILIAD"
EOS WAS THE GREEK GODDESS OF THE DAWN; SHE WAS THE DAUGHTER OF THE TITANS, JYPERIOD AND THEIA AND THE SISTER OF HELIOS (SUN) AND SELENE (MOON). WHILE ALL OF THE OTHER GODS AND MORTALS WERE FAST ASLEEP, IT WAS EOS WHO ROSE AND AWAKENED THE EARTH BY MOUNTING HER CHARIOT AND RISING FROM THE EAST TO PERFORM HER DUTY OF ANNOUNCING THE APPROACH OF HER BROTHER, HELIOS.
SHE WAS AN INCREDIBLY BEAUTIFUL WOMAN WITH ROSE-COLORED FINGERS WHO WAS CROWNED WITH A TIARA AND THE LARGE FEATHERED WINGS OF A BIRD. INDEED, IT WAS THROUGH EOS THAT OUR VISION OF THE CHRISTIAN ANGELS WAS FORMED. ACCORDING TO THE TALES, SHE WAS FREE WITH HER FAVORS AND HAD MANY CONSORTS...AMONG THE TITANS AND THE MORTALS. ONE MORNING AS EOS LOOKED UPON THE EARTH, SHE SAW A YOUNG MAN, TITHONIS, JUST AWAKENING FROM HIS SLUMBER...AND IMMEDIATELY SHE WAS SMITTEN.
TITHONIS ONCE, THE TALE WAS, ROSE-ARMED DAWN,
LOVE SMITTEN, CARRIED OFF TO THE WORLD'S END.
HANDSOME AND YOUNG THEN, YET IN TIME GREY AGE
O'ERTOOK HIM, HUSBAND OF IMMORTAL WIFE.
--SAPPHO 4TH CENTURY
SHE WONDERED, THOUGH, HOW IT COULD BE BECAUSE HE WAS JUST A HUMAN...AND SHE A GREAT IMMORTAL GODDESS. SO, WHEN IT WAS TIME FOR HELIOS TO DRIVE HIS CHARIOT ACROSS THE SKY, EOS WENT TO ZEUS AND PLEADED WITH HIM TO GIFT TITHONIS WITH ETERNAL LIFE. ZEUS GRANTED HER WISH, AND EOS BROUGHT TITHONIS TO HER PALACE IN THE EAST WHERE THEY SPENT MANY HAPPY YEARS TOGETHER.
BUT, THIS WAS NOT DESTINED TO LAST, FOR ALTHOUGH TITHONIS HAD ETERNAL LIFE, EOS HAD FORGOTTEN TO ASK ZEUS FOR ETERNAL YOUTH; SLOWLY, THE PRINCE BEGAN TO SHOW THE SIGNS OF AGING. EOS WAS MORTIFIED AS HIS HAIR TURNED WHITE, AND EVENTUALLY HE LOST THE POWER OF HIS LIMBS. SHE SHUT HIM INTO HIS ROOM, BUT HIS FEEBLE VOICE COULD STILL BE HEARD. EVENTUALLY, HE GREW MORE AND MORE ANCIENT, SHRIVELING UP UNTIL ONE DAY TURNING INTO A GRASSHOPPER.
TITHONIS AND EOS HAD TWO SONS--MEMNON AND EMATHION, AND MEMNON, WHO HAD BECOME AN ETHIOPIAN KING, GATHERED AN ARMY AND WENT OFF TO FIGHT IN THE TROJAN WAR. A LONG BATTLE ENSUED BETWEEN HIM AND ACHILLES. EVENTUALLY, MEMNON FELL, AND THE TROJANS FLED IN DISMAY. EOS, WHO FROM HER STATION IN THE SKY HAD VIEWED THE SCENE BELOW, WEPT AND LAMENTED FOR HER SON. NIGHT, IN SYMPATHY WITH HER GRIEF SPREAD THE HEAVEN WITH CLOUDS AS ALL NATURE MOURNED FOR THE OFFSPRING OF THE DAWN. EOS REMAINS INCONSOLABLE FOR THE LOSS OF HER SON, AND HER TEARS CONTINUE TO FLOW. THEY CAN BE SEEN IN THE EARLY MORNING IN THE FORM OF THE DEWDROPS ON THE GRASS.

NINHURSAG is the Sumerian Goddess of fertility. She also supplanted Ki as Goddess of the earth and mother of the Gods. Myths of her origin vary, but many state that she is the sister of Enlil, God of the air, which would make her the daughter of Ki and Anu, God of the sky. Whatever her origin, Ninhursag is most closely associated with Enki, God of the waters, as his consort. In a well-preserved myth entitled "Enki and Ninhursag," Ninhursag bears Enki a daughter named Ninsar, who in turn is impregnated by Enki and bears Ninkurra. Ninkurra too has Enki's child, a daughter named Uttu. Uttu, unwilling to bear Enki's child, was instead advised by Ninhursag to bury his semen in the ground, where it grew into eight plants. These were the first plants on the earth, and Enki proceeded to eat them.
Ninhursag was furious with Enki for eating the plants, and she cursed him so that each plant caused a disease in a different part of his body. The other Gods pleaded with Ninhursag to take the curse off Enki, because without his waters, the earth and its people were dying. To cure him of the diseases, Ninhursag gave birth to eight deities--five Goddesses (Ninsutu, Ninkasi, Nanshe, Dazimira, and Ninti) and three Gods (Abu, Nintul, and Enshag). These eight were each able to heal one of Enki's diseases, and leave him whole and healthy once again.
Ninhursag's name means "lady of the mountains," and she was also called NINTU (lady of birth), NINMENNA (lady of the tiara), and NINMAH (exalted lady), although it is likely that these were names of other Goddesses who were later assimilated with Ninhursag. Other names associated with her include NINMUG (lady of the vulva), NINZINAK (lady of the embryo), NINSIGSIG (lady of silence), NINBAHAR (lady of pottery), NINDIM (lady fashioner), NIG-ZI-GAL-DIM-DIM-ME (fashioner of all things in which there is breath of life), NAGARNAM-LUULU (carpenter of mankind), NAGAR-SA-GA (carpenter of the insides), TIBIRA-KALAM-MA (bronze caster of the nation), SAG-ZU-KALAM-MA (midwife of the nation), SAG-ZU-DIGIR-E-NE (midwife of the Gods), MUD-KES-DA (blood-stancher), AMA-DUG-BAD (mother spreading her legs), AMA-DUMU-DUMU-NE (mother of all children), and AMA-DIGIR-RE-NE-KE (mother of the Gods).

Shall I take a knife and tear my mother's bosom? Then when I die she will not take me to her bosom to rest. You ask me to dig for stone! Shall I dig under her skin for her bones? Then when I die I cannot enter her body to be born again. You ask me to cut grass and make hay and sell it, and be rich like white men! But how dare I cut off my mother's hair? It is a bad law and my people cannot obey it."
AWONAWILONA (Pueblo Indians)
"The One Who Contains Everything." The Supreme God, the Creator of All. Before the creation there was only Awonawilona; all else was darkness and emptiness. Both male and female, Awonawilona created everything from himself and taking form became the maker of light, the Sun.

COYOTE (Southwestern Indians, but known in other areas as well)
A trickster, a clown. The creator and teacher of men. Like Loki, Coyote is always lurking about, causing trouble and playing pranks. To the Zunis, Coyote is a hero who set forth the laws by which men may live in peace. The Pomo Indians maintain that Coyote created the human race and stole the sun to keep them warm. The Montana Sioux say that Coyote created the horse. The Chinook tell how Coyote and Eagle went to the land of the dead to bring back their dead wives. On reaching the land of the dead, they found a meeting lodge lit only by the moon which lay on the floor. Every night an old woman would swallow the moon and the dead would appear in the meeting lodge. Recognizing their wives among the spirits of the dead, the two gods devised a plan. The next day, after the old woman had vomited up the moon and the dead had disappeared, Coyote built a huge wooden box and placed in it leaves of every kind of plant. Coyote and Eagle then killed the old woman, and Coyote donned her clothes. When the time came, Coyote swallowed the moon. The dead appeared, but Eagle had place the box outside the exit. When Coyote vomited up the moon, the dead filed out and were trapped in the box. Coyote pleaded to be allowed to carry the box, and Eagle gave it to him. But Coyote couldn't wait to see his wife and opened the box. The spirits of the dead rose up like a cloud and disappeared to the west. So it is that people must die forever, not like the plants which die in winter and are green again in a season.
DEOHAKO (Iroquois/Seneca)
Spirits of maize, beans and gourds who live together in a single hill. Searching for dew, the maize spirit Onatha was captured by the evil spirit Hahgwehdaetgah who took her off to the underworld. Sun rescued her, and ever since she has remained in the cornfields until the corn is ripe.
ESTANATLEHI (Navajo)
First Woman's adopted daughter. To punish mankind for pride, First Man and First Woman sent a plague of monsters to kill and devour them. The time came when First Woman repented of the evils she and First Man had visited upon men, and she sought a means for their deliverance. First Woman discovered the infant Estanatlehi lying on the ground near First Woman's mountain, and took her in. The infant Estanatlehi grew to adulthood in four days. Making love with the Sun, she gave birth to the Twin Brothers who after many adventures slew the monsters.
EVENING STAR (Pawnee)
An evil star who drives the sun down out of the sky and send his daughter to hinder Morning Star from the sun back up again.
FIRST MAN AND FIRST WOMAN (Navajo)
In the beginning, First Man and First Woman ascended from the underworld together with Coyote, leading the people through trials and tribulations into the surface world which became their home. Deciding that the sky was too empty with only Sun and Moon, First Man, First Woman and Coyote gathered up glittering stones and placed them in the sky to serve as stars.
GAHE, also GA'AN (Apache)
Supernatural beings who dwell inside mountains. The can sometimes be heard dancing and beating drums. Because they can heal and drive away disease, they are worshipped. In the ritual dances of the Chiricahua Apache masked dancers painted a different color for each point of the compass represent all the Gahe except the Grey One. The Grey One, though he appears as a clown, is really the mightiest of all the Gahe.
GLUSKAP (Algonquin)
The Creator, or more exactly, the creator force. Generally benevolent, but often whimsical. Gluskap created the plains, the food plants, the animals and the human race from the body of the Mother Earth. His rival was his wolf brother Malsum, who made rocks, thickets and poisonous animals. After a long struggle Gluskap killed Malsum and drove his evil magic under the earth. Gluskap drove away monsters, fought stone giants, taught hunting and farming to men, and gave names to the stars. His work done, Gluskap paddled towards the sunrise in a birch bark canoe. Some day he may return.

Some of the men were granted great power and became the first medicine men.

A life-death-rebirth deity, also known as a dying-and-rising or resurrection deity, is a god who is born, suffers death or a death-like experience, passes through a phase in the underworld among the dead, and is subsequently reborn, in either a literal or symbolic sense. Male examples include Osiris, Tammuz, Jesus, Zalmoxis, Dionysus, and Odin. Female examples are Inanna, also known as Ishtar, whose cult dates to 4000 BCE, and Persephone, the central figure of the Eleusinian Mysteries, whose cult may date to 1700 BCE as the unnamed goddess worshiped in Crete. The term "life-death-rebirth deity" is associated with the works of James Frazer, Jane Ellen Harrison, and their fellow Cambridge Ritualists. In their seminal works The Golden Bough and Prolegomena to the Study of Greek Religion, Frazer and Harrison argued that all myths are echoes of rituals, and that all rituals have as their primordial purpose the manipulation of natural phenomena by means of sympathetic magic. Consequently, the rape and return of Persephone, the rending and repair of Osiris, the travails and triumph of Baldr, derive from primitive rites intended to renew the fertility of withered land and crops. The Swiss psychoanalyst Carl Jung argued that archetypal processes such as death and resurrection were part of the "trans-personal symbolism" of the collective unconscious, and could be utilized in the task of psychological integration. Jung's argument, in combination with that of the Cambridge Ritualists, has been developed by K'aroly Ker'enyi and Joseph Campbell.

As the Maiden, I saw through your eyes as a child
Spring rains, green forests, and animals wild!
I saw you run freely on the Earth with bare feet!
I watched as you danced in the winds, blowing free!
I was there as you grew, getting stronger each day!
I brought you rainbows, chasing grey skies away!
I was there in your laughter - I was there in your tears!
I was the acceptance you gained from your peers!
I saw your first love and I felt your first blush,
As passion first stirred in the night's gentle hush!
I am there with you always in the fresh morning dew!
I bring you the crispness of beginnings anew.
As the Mother, I bore all the labor distress
Of birthing your child, and I felt the caress
Of your hand on the face of the new life so dear.
I heard its first cry, and I eased your fear!
I provided the milk which you fed from your breast
Till the baby grew strong, and with health it was blessed.
As she took her first step, I was there in your smile!
I was there while you nurtured your beautiful child!
On the first day of school, when the doors opened wide
I was there in your fear - I was there in your pride.
I am there with you always in the bright full of moon!
I bring you fertility - abundance in bloom.
As the Crone, I brought blessings of wisdom with age
[Wisdom not found by the turn of a page].
I was there as you taught the correct way to live:
To love and to trust - to take and to give!
I was there in the twinkle of your aged eye!
I was there in your thoughts of the years flying by!
I was there when you taught the Mysteries of old!
I was there in the fire warming you in the cold!
In the weariness of age, I was there with you, too...
I brought well-deserved rest and peace unto you!
I am there with you always in the darkness of night!
I complete your life cycle, guiding you toward the light.
Maid, Mother and Crone - We are all One -
Yet We are all separate, as each role is done.
We do not leave you - We're always there
As you walk through this life with your worries and cares;
As you dance in the spiral, We live inside -
Deep in your spirit - where nothing can hide!
No matter your path, no matter it's length -
We give you courage and We give you strength.
We are there to support you every hour of day
And deep in the night, when dreams take you away.
Our gifts We give freely, for you are our Child...
Yes, We are the Lady: Wise, Pure, and Mild!
